April 22, Earth Day: what to do to be sustainable
April 22 is Earth Day, an international event for environmental sustainability and the preservation of our planet, a call to care for it every day. Planet Earth is an irreplaceable asset for us: preserving and protecting it is a priority, not a choice.
These are certainly beautiful words that we all try to make our own, but saving the planet can always seem like too big and complicated an undertaking for us, who are so small. But what if we told you that it takes a lot less than you think to make a difference?
Let's see how together thanks to our mini-guide to sustainability!
#1 RE-USE
Very often we forget that before we throw away an object, we can think of a way to reuse it, in a simple, fun and original way. Recycle and reuse are the imperatives to follow, even when it comes to haircare products: an empty bottle can always have a second life, it can be filled with another product or-if the right size-used to take your favorite cosmetics on the road with you, simply by decanting them!
#2 THINK FOR A MOMENT BEFORE YOU..
How often do you buy products without much thought, only driven by the impulse to own them? Not everything we buy we need, but we often realize this when money is now spent. Before buying a new product ask yourself if you really need it or if there is a more sustainable and-why not-reusable alternative. A few examples?
A handy canvas bag, which you can also use for grocery shopping instead of plastic bags! Always remember to finish the cosmetics you have already opened before trying others, and prefer products with 100% recyclable packaging, like all Mood products!
#3 CLOSE IT!
Turn off that faucet!
No doubt taking a bath in the tub after a stressful day is a boon, but did you know that doing so wastes three times as much water as you use to take a shower? This doesn't mean stop using your beloved tub, but try to reduce the frequency with which you fill it.
Another little tip is really about your haircare routine: while lathering your hair with your favorite Mood shampoo, turn off that faucet!
#4 GIVE IT A SECOND CHANCE!
No, we are not talking about the hairdresser who cut your hair three times what you asked for, but about clothes, accessories, shoes or furniture items that still do not deserve to be thrown away. What can you do? Take them to a flea market or sell them online on special apps; not only will you not throw them away, you'll also make a profit! Alternatively, you can always donate them to those in need. This rule - with proper precautions - can also apply to beauty products: did you buy a shampoo that unfortunately is not suitable for your hair? You can gift it to a friend, who may fall in love with it!
#5 IN THE MOOD FOR FOOD
Sustainability is also done at the table, how? First of all, when we go grocery shopping, we can reduce the use of plastic by buying foods in bulk (fruits and vegetables, first and foremost). If you want to do even more for our planet, eat according to season! We have become accustomed to eating any kind of fruit or vegetable throughout the year, but by choosing produce that is in season and locally sourced, we can reduce pollution and do good for our bodies as well. In fact, vegetables that follow seasonality require fewer pesticides and fertilizers to grow. What fruits and vegetables to eat in April? You are spoiled for choice: lemons, kiwis, strawberries, asparagus, artichokes, fennel, radishes and many more!
Do you also want your hair color to follow the seasonality and timing of nature? Then we recommend Mood Demi Double, an ammonia-free demi-permanent hair color enriched with PhytoCycleTM Orange, a bio-technological active that imparts hydration and protection and is derived from orange pulp waste. This natural active supports Mood's commitment to increasingly clean, sustainable and 100% vegan beauty.
Hoping that our little tips have inspired you, now let's tell you about us.
What do we at Mood do for the environment? We'll tell you right now! All of our products come in 100% recyclable packaging, from the bottles, to the caps, to the labels.
We use renewable energy sources to produce them, thanks to which we power the entire production plant; in fact, the company has decided to invest in the future by installing more than 600 solar panels in its Milan Head Quarter to generate clean energy. The result? Same products, same quality ... with a significant lowering of the environmental impact.
We can still improve a lot and we are striving to do so, day after day, because we believe that protecting the planet is the duty of all of us, no one excluded, and that we can no longer afford to waste time: we must act, now.
