Question of "chemistry"
One of the pillars of Mood has always been sustainable innovation: we take the best of nature and optimize it in our laboratories. This is how cruelty free products are born, dermatologically tested and characterized by vegan formulas with certified ingredients of natural origin.
How does this process happen? What are the fundamental steps that lead to the finished product? Today we discover it, opening the doors of our laboratories.
Interview with Sara Rizzuto, Formulatrice for research, development and development of new Mood products.
- Science and research are the founding elements in professional cosmetics? How?
Science and research are the fundamental elements for the growth and evolution of the cosmetics industry. Scientific research ensures the continuous innovation of cosmetic products and their ingredients, to meet the new and growing expectations of consumers towards effective and safe products.
- How did the idea of a new product come about? What are the macro-phases?
A new product can arise from an innovative idea, from a market survey or simply from a specific request. Before the development of a new product it is necessary to understand the goal to be achieved, what are the characteristics that a product must have; only then we move to the development phase in the laboratory, including all tests to ensure the stability of the product.
Finally, the product is tested in the technical room to evaluate its performance according to the required requirements, only in this way it is understood if it is ready to be marketed.
- What is cosmetic innovation?
Innovation is anticipating the times, understanding where the market goes, trends and people’s needs. Innovation means betting on new raw materials, on modern cosmetic forms and on increasingly advanced products.
- How important is the stability factor?
Stability is very important for a cosmetic product, because it allows us to know if it will be in excellent condition for as long as it will be on the market.
- What tests are taking place?
A cosmetic product, before being put on the market, must pass tests in which it is "stressed" that is, brought in all the worst situations in which it could be found on the market. For example, it must be tested in situations of extreme heat and cold, thermal shock, extreme light and carry out microbiological tests to ensure that the product reaches the final consumer flawlessly and safely.
- What are the most complicated products to formulate?
I believe that every product is different, each one is different because each product is unique, specific for a specific function. Surely the latest trends of products of natural origin have greatly changed the method of developing a product. The use of green raw materials makes it more difficult but also more stimulating the formulation and development of a new product.
- Small spoiler: what are the most innovative ingredients that a cosmetic company can not use in the coming years?
The market trend is that of the use of raw materials of plant origin and low environmental impact: biotechnological raw materials that use production methods that in turn have little impact on the environment and are very functional 😉
Let’s finish with some more personal questions 😊
- Why should a young person pursue this career of study and consequently work?
In general this type of path allows you to open your horizons, to approach different disciplines and to get involved in a dynamic and constantly evolving sector.
- What is your "motto" for laboratory work?
In the lab I always tell myself to be scrupulous and to go beyond my certainties. Critical thinking is essential to developing new and safe products. Lastly, I think curiosity is very important: ours is a constantly evolving sector, so it is essential to keep up to date and get informed.
